ARM Oil and Gas Solutions

Project Case Studies

Company : Rex Energy Corporation (NASDAQ: REXX)

Locations: Clearfield, Centre, Butler and Westmoreland Counties, Pennsylvania

ARM Oil & Gas Solutions (AOGS) is providing comprehensive turnkey engineering and environmental consulting to Rex Energy Corporation (Rex) across four counties in Pennsylvania to support all of Rex's natural gas well drilling and development operations in the Marcellus Shale formation.

  • Water Supply Development: To date, AOGS has successfully obtained permits for Rex to use up to 5,000,000 gallons of water per day from the Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC). The water permitted for use has been degraded by historic mining practices (acid mine drainage) and, therefore, is a beneficial use of an adversely impacted water.

  • Permitting Services: Erosion and Sediment Control General Permits (ESCGP-1); Erosion and Sediment Control Plans; Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) General Permits; Post Construction Stormwater Management (PCSM) Plans; and Preparedness, Prevention and Contingency (PPC) Plans.

  • Civil Engineering Services: Access roads; stormwater management; erosion control; graded well pad design; and geosynthetically-lined wastewater sumps and water storage impoundments to support the drilling and development operations. In addition, AOGS’ ecologists are conducting site-specific wetland and threatened and endangered species surveys prior to site construction to ensure there are no adverse natural resource impacts.

  • Brine Water Treatment: AOGS has designed mobile water treatment processes and permitted stationary wastewater treatment facilities including National Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) permits to handle and treat the amount wastewater produced by Rex’s drilling operations.

Company : Energy Corporation of America (ECA)

Location: Greene County, Pennsylvania

AOGS is providing water supply development services to ECA in support of its Greene County, Pennsylvania operations.  AOGS personnel evaluated the available water resources at several locations to assist ECA in obtaining the necessary water supplies to support its Marcellus operations, ultimately leading to approval of its water management plans, as required by PADEP.

Company : Texas-based exploration & production company

Locations: Bradford, Washington, and Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania

AOGS is providing comprehensive turnkey engineering and environmental consulting to a Texas-based (E&P) company across three counties in Pennsylvania to support its natural gas well drilling and development operations in the Marcellus Shale formation.

  • Water Supply Development: To date, AOGS has successfully obtained permits for this company to use up to 2,000,000 gallons of water per day of water from the Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) at multiple well pads. In addition, AOGS personnel have submitted and obtained approval on multiple county-wide water management plans, as required by PADEP.

  • Permitting Services: AOGS engineers and scientists have completed and submitted all of the various permit applications and associated plans for both drill sites and pipelines, including: PADEP General Permits; Erosion and Sediment Control (E&S) Plans; and PPC Plans.

  • Civil Engineering Design Services:  AOGS engineers are providing innovative and practical designs for access roads, stormwater management facilities, erosion control measures, well pads, and geosynthetically-lined wastewater sumps and water storage impoundments to support the drilling and development operations.

  • Natural Resource Services: AOGS’ ecologists are conducting site-specific wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, and Pennsylvania Natural Diversity Inventory (PNDI) survey clearances prior to site construction to ensure there are no adverse natural resources impacts.

Company : Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Location: Indiana, Lebanon, Lancaster Counties, Pennsylvania

ARM Geophysics provided Two-Dimensional Seismic Surveying in counties across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Bureau of Topographical and Geologic Survey administered the contract. ARM utilized a combination of source technologies: the AXIS, a nitrogen gas-charged Accelerated Impact Energy Source capable of delivering over 1 million foot-pounds of impact force and standard Vibroseis sources. The team used the AXIS system to acquire seismic data where other conventional energy source systems could not be used. The AXIS system is a high-powered, environmentally- friendly impact seismic source that can be used with almost any type of modern seismograph system, and has been utilized in a variety of 2D and 3D seismic programs. The AXIS source can work in many areas where explosive and vibratory seismic sources cannot, either because of regulations, or because of the risk of damage to underground pipes, utility lines, surface structures, and wildlife habitats.

The seismic survey project is part of an innovative program that was formally established by Act 129 (2008) of the Pennsylvania Legislature to establish Pennsylvania as an international leader in reducing the amount of climate-changing greenhouse gases that reach the atmosphere. As conceived, the ultimate program would effectively collect carbon dioxide gas (CO2) produced by coal-fired electricity generating plants and other sources, and then inject the gas into deep geologic “reservoirs” that have sufficient capacity to permanently sequester the gas.

ARM collected over 70 miles of 2D seismic reflection data in Indiana, Lebanon, and Lancaster counties. Depths of characterization ranged from 12,000 to 30,000 + feet depending on the site specific targets.
